Jesse Day of Berkeley, California, has taken over the lead at the 2011 National Scrabble Championship in Addison, Texas. After playing 28 matches over the course of four days, Day is in first place with a record of 20-8 and a point differential of +1308.
Nigel Richards of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who won the 2010 National Scrabble Championship, is in second place with an identical 20-8 record, but a lower point differential (+1143). Kenji Matsumoto (+1137) and Brian Bowman (+758) are in third and fourth, respectively; each is also 20-8.
The final three rounds take place today. The winner will earn a $10,000 top prize.
