Klaus Teuber is best known for designing the wonderful board game The Settlers of Catan. But he has also designed many other games worth playing and owning. These are my picks for the top five.

Image courtesy of Mayfair Games Settlers of Catan is the first designer game which caught widespread attention in America. A random board layout ensures that every game is different, and there's a fine balance between skill and luck. Several game expansions are available. If you've never played, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
2. Hoity Toity
This game, also known as "Adel Verpflichtet" or "By Hook or By Crook," finds players trying to build the most valuable collection of antiques and art. In order to succeed, you must outguess your opponents -- everyone moves only after everyone has chosen their strategy for the turn.
The name refers to a German story, but the gameplay is refreshingly original. Players use clay to sculpt various items listed on cards, but they don't want their creations to be too good. Or too bad. If your opponents guess what your sculptures are either too soon or too late, you won't do well in this game.
An exploration game in which players sail toward the new world, uncovering islands as they go. Because it was published not long after Settlers of Catan, Entdecker suffered by comparison. But now that it's been out for several years, many players find great enjoyment in this game.
The town has too many museums, schools, and fire stations. And they forgot to include any roads or rivers when they rebuilt. While protecting their own favorite buildings (as determined by dealing cards), players work to build the roads and rivers, even though doing so will destroy other types of buildings. An odd theme but a fun game.
