Players race to move their 15 checkers (also known as men, stones, or counters) off the board by rolling two dice and making good decisions about which pieces to move when, protecting their own pieces and attacking their opponent's. Read the

Some people say the roots of modern Backgammon can be traced to ancient Egypt and the board game Senet, which may be the oldest known board game. Others draw a more direct line to The Royal Game of Ur, found in ancient Mesopotamia. In ancient Rome, the game Ludus Duodecim Scriptorum (literally, "game of twelve lines") is very similar to Backgammon. Historian Touraj Daryaee has written about Backgammon's likely ancestry in India.
